I have been such a bad blogger so I wanted to drop a real quick post to wish you all a safe and happy Halloween. I have so many posts that I need to get done.....my son's bday, his homecoming game and dance as well as our trip to Apple Hill....hopefully I will get a chance to do some of those soon.
Do you have any exciting plans for tonight? I will be studying for a lab quiz (yuck!) as well as handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters.

It's a............
As most of you know my oldest daughter is pregnant. Yes...I agree with you, I am not old enough to be the G-word!! LOL!!! But ready or not that's exactly what will be happening around 3/2/08. It's been 2 months since I found out and I'm still trying to adjust to it.......and since I am not liking the sound of the G-word I have a poll for you.
Poll: Help me come up with name other than grandma :::shutters at the sound of that word::: What sounds good?
So far my top choices are Nonna or Nonni.......but I just don't know. I like Nonna because it kinda sounds like my name and maybe that's what everyone will think the baby is saying.....right? hehehehe
So anyways....yesterday my daughter had an ultrasound to determine the gender of the baby. And without further ado.......drum roll please.
Brayden James is his name....unless that changes in the next few months.
Once the situation with my daughter gets resolved (if that ever happens) and I get used to becoming a G-word at the ripe old age of 39 (I will just turn 39 about a month before the baby is due) it might be nice to have another boy in the family. I am dreading my son's graduation from high school because it will mean that all my children are grown and it signals the end of watching my children participate in extracurricular activities, as I have been doing for about the last 15 years. I enjoy it so much that I am not looking forward to the day when it is over.....but perhaps Brayden will fill that void with his own activites.
For all of you that have young children or will have them in the future I have just one word of advice for you.......treasure each and every day because I promise they will be grown long before you are ready for it. Last night DH and I saw a commercial for a new children's animated movie that is coming out and funny enough he said exactly what I was thinking.......I wish our kids were still little. It really hits home that they are grown and no longer want to spend every waking moment with you right around the holidays (we have to drag them practically kicking and screaming to the pumpkin patch and to look at Christmas lights) or when new children's movies come out and you know there is no way they are going to go see that with you. :::sigh:::

Happy 2nd Birthday Kyrah!!!
October 5th was my niece Kyrah's 2nd birthday. I can't believe it has already been 2 years since I spent the whole night at the hospital waiting for her to make her entrance into this world. I was rather excited when she was born too because I had order a girl and we didn't know what my sister was having, as she didn't find out beforehand.
Saturday was Kyrah's birthday party. It was a costume party and I went dressed as a struggling newlywed....which means I didn't dress up at all. Kyrah was Dot from A Bug's Life....my sister and mother made her costume.
My sister dressed up as a trampy fairy.......ok, so she was just a fairy but with her boobs falling out of her costume I added the trampy part, lol!
And my brother in law was a scarecrow.
Here's my mother's costume....can you guess what she is?
She's a pincushion....notice the little dots on her costume, they are pin heads. Everyone always thinks she is a strawberry but if you could see that she has a tape measure around her neck and hanging from the costume is the small strawberry that always accompanied pincushions you would be able to tell. She made the costume herself....quite creative. Here is what the actual pincushion looks like...
And here's a picture that I just had to take.....good thing no one looked over the fence because this would appear to be something other than what it really was, my daughter fixing the drawstring on my mom's costume.
Then it was on to opening presents.
As you can see we have become a lazy society....instead of wrapping presents we now just put them in a bag with tissue paper, myself included. Well it was rather funny watching Kyrah open presents because as she took the tissue paper out of the bag if there were clothes inside instead of a toy she just shoved the tissue paper right back in the bag, said no and moved on to the next bag. Thank goodness I bought her a toy!
And then it was time for cake....
Then my dad arrived in costume....
As you can see Kyrah did not like his costume...he had one of those black cloth masks over his face where he can see out but you can't see in......so she went running to the nearest person, my DH.
But alas....fun was had by all and Kyrah thoroughly enjoyed her birthday party....and all the toys she received.

It's Halloween time!!!
The older I get the more I love Fall. The colors are so beautiful....something I never appreciated before. When I was younger I hated Fall....it always meant back to school, summer fun was over and that the dreaded wet winter was just around there corner.....but now I can't help but enjoy this time of year. The trees are changing colors, there's a smell in the air just can't be described and best of all it means it's Halloween time!
I love Halloween, although it does make me long for the days when my kids were little. We still go to the Pumpkin Patch together and carve pumpkins but gone are the days of watching the excitement on their faces as we go door to door for the next piece of candy. But this time of year is still so much fun. Another reason that Halloween is so special to me is because it is the day after my son's birthday. I remember when he was born as if it was just yesterday....I was released from the hospital at 2pm on Halloween and I promptly headed home with my new baby to dress my daughters up in their costumes. We then put the baby in his stroller and headed out for a night of trick or treating.....yes, I was out trick or treating with a newborn baby. I wouldn't have missed this time with my girls for anything....but let me tell you, by the end of the evening I was not walking so well.
A side note....today is Kyrah's 2nd birthday! Happy Birthday!!! She deserves her own blog post so I will be doing it at another time....her birthday party is tomorrow so I will take plenty of pictures.

My last class.....
After taking classes in the evenings for the past 4 years I am finally in my last class before being eligible to apply to the nursing program. I have managed to suffer through Algebra, Nutrition, Human Development, Psychology, English Comp, Human Anatomy, Chemistry and Microbiology and pull off an A in all of them without a whole lot of effort. So this semester I am in Human Physiology and felt pretty sure that I could do the same. Boy was I wrong!!!
Just looking at the cover of my book you can probably guess how intense and boring this class is! I have been in the class for 5 weeks and I do not feel any better about it now than I did on the very first day of class....all of my other classes were pretty intimidating at first but I felt much better about them by this time.
My guess is that it is because up until now I have been lucky enough to have great teachers. I have to say that my current teacher is impossible! After the 16 weeks is up I will have been in 31 classes and have taken 25 tests in that time period! We are constantly studying for quizzes in both lecture and lab while trying to not only read the text for the upcoming class but also read the lab manual for the lab we will be doing that week and studying for the exams we have every month. Now in all of the other classes the quizzes were great study tools for the upcoming exams because that's what quizzes do, prepare you for the test, right? Well not this class......she said on day one that her quizzes will have nothing to do with the exams. What is the point than? It is so hard to try and study for so many different tests at the same time! And we are assigned homework every week as well and a major lab report that we get exactly one week from the time of the lab to write up.
She also told us that her tests are from her lectures not the books....but she talks so fast that it is hard to write down everything she is saying (and she walks around the room so trying to tape record her doesn't work) and she asks questions that she wants answers to while we are trying to write down what she said. Now maybe it's just me but I can't try to write down everything you said from my memory while trying to process the answer to a question you are asking. I am great at multitasking but I'm not that good. I know many people take more than one class at a time and this must be pretty similar to what they are trying to do....but I work full time as well as have kids with extracurricular activities, I can only do so much. You should see me standing at the stove cooking dinner while holding the flashcards in my hand or driving down the street asking myself questions or repeating definitions out loud.

If you managed to actually read that whole book description I am impressed. I can barely listen to her talk about it let alone try and read it.....plus what I read from the book just doesn't stick. I learn by doing not reading....and unfortunately we dont' "do" anything for lecture, it is all reading and listening.
We had our first exam last week and I got a disappointing 81%, only two people got higher than me and it was only by 1 point. So the teacher felt the need to stand up in class last night and rant for over 15 mins about how she has never in 18 years of teaching had a class not get at least one A on this test. She was basically telling us that we are the stupidest class she has ever had, and I currently have an 87% overall in there. She was actually mad.....I finally got PO'd and her and I went back and forth during class. Not exactly arguing but I was most definately pointing out what I thought the problem was. So she proceeded to ask me if I was planning on going to the nursing program...when I answered yes she said well it's going to be harder than this so how are you going to do that. Biatch! I rather promptly and rudely informed her that when I am in the nursing program I will NOT be working a full time job at the same time. It shut her up.
Sorry for such a long post and all my venting but I just needed to get it all off my chest....this class is going to kill me....and to let everyone know that I had not disappeared off the face of the earth. I hope to be back to having a life on Dec. 14th!
