Wahooooo! After 16 weeks of pure hell I am finally finished with Human Physiology. I have to say that was the hardest class that I have ever taken. It took up so much of my time, energy and brain space. But alas.....I am done! And guess what.....I got an A!!! Don't ask me how...I have no idea. I managed to pull off an A with 4 points to spare.....doesn't matter what your percentage is, 90% or 99%, an A is an A and that's all that shows up on your transcripts. Somehow I got 101% on my lab final.....I didn't even think that I did well enough to get an A on it let alone get more points than the test was worth (finally going into more detail than the Devil teacher asked for paid off!!)
And the best part....I am also finally finished with my pre-requisites for the nursing program. YAY!!! 4 1/2 years ago I decided to go back to school. I knew that it would take me longer than most students because I was only going to take one class a semester......I already work full time and I refused to spend the rest of my time in this class or that class and miss out on what was left of my kids' childhood. So instead of taking 1 1/2 to 2 years, it took me 4 1/2.....but I wouldn't have had it any other way because I was there at the baseball/football games, dance recitals and most of the school functions.
The next step for me is to apply to the nursing program. I don't know how it is for the rest of the country but here in California we have a major nursing shortage......which is good for the pay rate but bad because we have more students than we have schools (at least that's the case here in Sacramento). So come Feb/Mar I will be applying to the 3 schools that we have here and hope that I get in. Unfortunately it is a lottery system.......so it is really the luck of the draw. Each school has 25 spots and about 450 people applying. How crazy is that?! If there is such a big nursing shortage why aren't there more schools?! I don't know this for a fact but I have heard that grades can play a part in the lottery selection.....I hope that is true because I have a 4.0 GPA in all my pre-reqs.
If all goes well I can be in the nursing program by the Fall of 2008 with a graduation date of Spring 2010. If I don't get in on my first try (damn lottery, I never have been lucky enough to win) it could possibly take a few years to get in and then add the 2 years of the program to that and I might be 80 before I am finished!
